The oldest son of missionary parents, William Paul Young was raised in the highlands of Netherlands, New Guinea, among the Dani, a technologically stone age tribal people. He has owned businesses and worked for others in diverse industries, from insurance to construction, venture capital companies to telecom, contract work to food processing, whatever was needed to help feed and house his growing family. He has always been a writer, whether of songs, poetry, short stories or newsletters, never for public consumption but for friends and family. With no intention of publishing it, he wrote The Shack for his six children. Yet with over 5.4 million copies in print, this book is causing Christians and pre-Christians alike to experience a new hunger for God and to encounter Him and His all-surpassing love.
